In my opinion, it's in the best interest of humans to act altruistically towards animals and other non-humans [[Agent|agents]] (for example, animals). I plan to write a post that explain the reasons behind it.
However, I think some people don't realize that and in my opinion, it's best to define the represented agents as humans so that the norm is supported by humans, even if they don't yet realize that it's in their best interest to act altruistically towards non-human agents. I expect that once humans realize that, the definition of represented agents will be extended to include other non-human agents.
If I defined it to include other non-human agents, it is likely that the norm would face more opposition and would be less likely to be successful. The norm makes it more likely for human to progress and therefore it also makes it more likely for humans to act altruistically towards non-human agents which is in the interest of non-human agents.
Additionally, it's difficult to decide and define what exactly constitutes an agent and to which extent they should be included.
My intention is not to exclude non-human agents and I expect that the goal will be modified at certain to include the non-human agents.
I also had a strong analysis paralysis when considering that goal and thought that it's best for now to keep it simple and change later if needed.
